Toothpick Bridge Project Objective: You will work in a group of 3-4 students to build the longest suspension bridge possible that will hang between 2 chairs.

Supplies for each brown bag: 100 toothpicks and 1 meter of masking tape - or - 100 toothpicks and 50 mini marshmallows
Directions:
Supplies for each brown bag: 100 toothpicks and 1 meter of masking tape - or - 100 toothpicks and 50 mini marshmallows

- Each group will receive 100 toothpicks and 1 meter long piece of masking tape or 50 mini marshmallows
- Build a suspension bridge that will “hang” between two chairs.
- Use only the supplies given.

Task 1: Brown Bag Bird Project
Each group of 2 or 3 students will receive a brown lunch bag containing the following:
- 1 craft stick
- 2 pipe cleaners
- 1 cork
- 1 straw
- 4 paper clips
- 1 rubber band
- 2 3x5 cards
You will have 40 minutes to design a bird with aerodynamic lifting surfaces (wings) and a streamlined body that will actually fly.
You will earn points for the following:
- looking like a bird
- 1-10 points
- distance it flies
- 0-5 feet = 2 points
- 5-10 feet = 4 points
- 11-15 feet = 6 points
- 16-20 feet = 8 points
- +20 feet = 10 points
